In-Flight Basics

It’s a known fact that flying, even for a few hours, can leave you frazzled. You’re breathing in a mixture of fresh and re-circulated air, making it more likely for you to develop a cold, your skin gets dehydrated, leaving it dull, and not to mention all the mindless over-eating. You’re trapped in a flying metal box that doesn’t leave you with many options, what else are you going to do?

It isn’t a guarantee, but taking vitamins or supplements for a week or two before flying, and during your holiday, could prevent you from developing a cold as a result. I do this and I’ve never caught anything, so try it for yourself.

Also, make sure you dress comfortably for the flight. Skinny jeans and mini skirts are a no-no. You don’t have to look like a tramp, but keeping it casual with layers that can easily be slipped on and off is the way to go. I usually either wear leggings with a long top or a tracksuit.
If, like me, you can feel a bit claustrophobic, sitting in the aisle seat and making use of the fan above your seat has always helped me.

What to Pack
A Small Tub of Moisturiser
You can buy clear bottles and tubs which are small enough to carry on board with you. Fill one of them with a good moisturiser, ideally with an SPF in it if you’re jetting off to higher climates.

Mascara
On holiday, you don’t need as much make-up - it just melts off your face anyway - but most women’s can’t-live-without item of choice is mascara. Even if it’s the only thing you wear, wearing it makes you look more alert and ‘done.’

Note: lipsticks can be brought on board too, as they’re classed as a solid, not liquid.

Bottle of Water
You may be taking trips to the bathroom much more as a result, but if you don’t want to come out the other end looking like a zombie, try to drink at least one bottle to stay fresh.

Blanket
If you’re on a long haul flight, you might want to take your own travel blanket and pillow with you, if that’s what’s going to make you relax more easily.

Books/Magazines
Bring plenty of things to entertain you, or you may just end up spending the entire flight stuffing your face just so you have something to do. If there are movies and TV shows playing, use them to fill up your time and the flight should fly by.

Food!
It’s a bit awkward bringing your own food on board without it either heading for the bin before you get past security or it going off before you get the chance to eat it. Some idea’s I’ve come up with are:

1. Veggie sticks and dip.
2. Instant soup (just ask for hot water when you‘re ready to eat it)
3. A small bag of sweets if you suffer with your ears during take-off - that’s my excuse anyway!

If you haven't had time to prepare anything and you get the munchies on board, nowadays there's usually better options such as vegetable crisps decent sandwiches.

Important Documents
This should be obvious, but I’ll point it out anyway: always keep all important documents on you.

Just in Case..
Some underwear and a change of clothes - you could be unlucky and not meet your luggage at the other side.
